WHAT IS REIKI
Developed in Japan in 1921 by Mikao Usui and brought to the United States in 1938, Reiki is a light touch healing technique which gently facilitates each person's own ability to find and maintain balance in body, mind and spirit. Often known as a spiritual healing practice, but not religious, Reiki helps each person to discover meaning and purpose in life.

The technique is based on the belief that there is an energetic flow in and through all living things. When this energy is low or blocked, we are more likely to get sick and feel stressed. A Reiki session restores this flow of energy, naturally helping the body's own innate ability to rediscover wellness.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A REIKI SESSION
Reiki sessions are ideally held in a quiet and comfortable setting. While lying fully-clothed on a padded massage table, or sitting in a chair, the client’s experience may be enhanced by soft music, scented candles and low lighting.
With light touch, usually no more than the weight of a nickel, the practitioner will gently place her hands on multiple locations on the client’s body. Many of the selected hand locations correspond to centers of energy known as chakras. Often the practitioner’s hands are a few inches above the client, assessing the energy field surrounding the body. It’s not uncommon for warmth, tingling, and/or movement to be experienced during a session as the client draws what is needed. Reiki can also be done without touching the client, if he/she prefers, and is just as effective.
An immediate positive response by clients is almost always expressed. Individuals who were previously feeling anxious or stressed often report a high level of relaxation and sense of well-being. In fact, many clients fall asleep during a treatment! While many benefits are immediately evident, the positive shifts in your rebalanced body may be experienced for days or even weeks afterwards.
